Pelvic Floor Workshop

  • Fit2Shine Studio 52 West Main Street New Market, MD, 21774 United States (map)

Have you heard the term 'pelvic floor' and wondered what exactly people were talking about? Do you sometimes pee a bit when you laugh and wonder why, oh why? And do you feel like your core muscles aren't as 'tight' as they used to be even when you're doing the same workouts? Maybe you've heard the term 'kegels,' but don't have a physical understanding of what that actually is.

Join Dr. Kelly Yates from Rehab 2 Perform and Kelly Jarvis from Fit2Shine Studio for a pelvic floor workshop that will leave you feeling educated, relaxed, and empowered. This 2-hour workshop will help you learn the anatomy of the pelvic floor, why its strength is vital to your workouts and overall health, and teach you techniques to incorporate pelvic floor engagement in everyday life. Plus, we'll offer a yoga practice specifically designed to notice the pelvic floor, but also release tension in the rest of your body so you walk away feeling relaxed and empowered.

More about the instructors:

Dr. Kelly Yates, DPT, MTC, CMTPT, was born and raised in Westminster, MD. After working as an aide in an outpatient orthopedic physical therapy setting, she decided physical therapy was the career she wanted to pursue. She earned her B.S. in Health Education from Trident University International, then went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. She was exposed to physical therapy in the acute care setting, vestibular rehabilitation, and outpatient orthopedics during her internships in school.

After graduation, Kelly earned her certification in Trigger Point Dry Needling through Myopain Seminars, and Manual Therapy through the University of St. Augustine. Her passion for outpatient orthopedics allowed her to begin growing her career in this setting since graduating in 2015. Kelly has developed an interest in helping female athletes return to exercise after pregnancy.

Kelly is continuously seeking out ways to better improve her skills and treatment methods to help a wide variety of patients. She takes pride in figuring out the “why” behind pain and assisting patients in becoming their best self. To do so, she meets the patients where they are, takes their personal goals into consideration, and incorporates education, exercise and manual therapy as appropriate.

Kelly Jarvis, Owner of Fit2Shine Studio, is a certified personal trainer (NASM), group fitness instructor, and yoga instructor. Kelly is passionate about the pelvic floor from years of experiencing students in class with pelvic floor dysfunction or general lack of awareness of its importance, as well as her own pregnancy journey with three kids (one set of twins!)
